Himalayan Association (ONGCHA), Assam Chapter has created spirit of adventure
sports among people ONGC, Assam Asset by organizing Adventure Sports Carnival
cum Ethnic Food Festival during 18-19 January, 2015 at ONGC Parade Ground,
Nazira. While making fun in different exciting activities, people enjoyed the
taste of delicious ethnic food of communities like Mising, Mech Kachari and
Assamese including North Indian foods and also crowded in the mesmerising
cultural programme in the evening in both the days.
Day 1, January 18,
2015: In
the morning on 18th January, 2015 the Carnival was formally
inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Shri Budhin Deuri, ED-Surface Manager, Assam
Asset where Shri Alok Khanna, GGM-Head Engg. Services, Assam Asset was also
present as Guest of Honour. Addressing the programme, the President of ONGCHA,
Assam Chapter, Shri S. K. Wadhwani, GM-Head HR/ER & SM, Assam Asset spoke
in brief about the Adventure Sports Carnival cum Ethnic Food Festival.
Inaugurating the Carnival the Chief Guest appreciated ONGCHA for organising
such a programme. The inaugural function was concluded with the vote of thanks
by the Coordinator of ONGCHA, Assam Chapter, Shri Nitya Dutta, Sr. Fire Officer
followed by different adventure sports events upto 17:00 hours and cultural
extravaganza in the evening.
ONGCHA,
Assam Chapter has been undertaking numerous expeditions successfully and now in
line of dare adventure sports it is organising the Adventure Sports Carnival
cum Ethnic Food Festival with colourful cultural extravaganza. During the
carnival various adventure sports, such as, Parasailing, Roar High, Rappelling,
Zorbing Ball, Monkey Crawling, etc. were demonstrated where thousands of people
including school children also actively participated in all the sports. Apart
from the cultural extravaganza in the evening other feathers of attraction of
the Carnival were Martial Art demo, Handicrafts showcase, etc.
The
beautiful cultural programme was decorated by some popular artists including
children dance troupe. Moreover, a presentation on one upcoming Assamese film
‘Wake up Northeast’ directed by Shri Jahnu Konwar was made providing awareness
about the film to be made on the theme on respect to women.
Day 2, January 19,
2015: On
the closing day of the Carnival, i.e., 19th January, 2015, adventure
sports events were held till 17:00 hours. In the evening, exhibition
football matches between Sivasagar Football Academy and ONGC Officers’ Club
Football Team, Nazira were played on flood light at night where a crowd of
people watched the match cheerfully.

The
closing function of the Carnival was graced by the Chief Patron of ONGCHA,
Assam Chapter, honourable Shri Bimal Kumar Baruah, Executive Director-Asset
Manager, ONGC, Assam Asset. He expressed happiness while appreciating ONGCHA
for organising the Carnival. Again, most of the senior executives of ONGC,
Assam Asset were also attended the programme.
Shri
Nitya Dutta, Coordinator of ONGCHA, Assam Chapter offered vote of thanks of the
closing function. He unfolded sincere gratitude and thankfulness to all concern
for making the Adventure Sports Carnival a grand success. The Coordinator
disclosed that out of 150, about 100 members of ONGCHA, Assam Chapter actively
participated in the Carnival. Further, he mentioned that such type of programme
is taken up by ONGCHA for creating cordial relationship among employees and
their families through demonstration and participation in different adventure
sports. Such type of programme can also deliver good messages about the
activities of ONGC for society as well.
The
cultural extravaganza on the closing day was continued till midnight where
various artists including professional singers and dancers could make the venue
spectacular with the synthesis of songs, music and dance. The ‘Bhurtal Nritya’,
Bihu dance by ONGC wards and the Ethnic Fashion Show by the Assamese fashion
designer Ms. Devajani were highly appreciated by the audience. The performance
by ‘Sargam’ - a fusion concert from rock to Bihu consisting of Ms. Sangita
Kakoty and Mark Alvin echoed around the venue with popular numbers.
