Adventure Sports Carnival, organized by ONGCHA-Assam Chapter during 21-22 March 2014, established a great zeal for adventure sports

Adventure Sports Carnival, organized by ONGCHA-Assam Chapter from 21st to 22nd March, 2014 at Parade Ground, ONGC, Nazira, concluded establishing a great zeal for adventure sports among sports lovers. With eventful schedule of two days, ONGCHA-Assam Chapter tried to popularise the adventure sports practically
through participation as well as demonstration of some outdoor sports like para-sailing, monkey crawling, rappelling, elephant safari, horse riding, etc. where about 636 adventure lovers participated in all the adventure sports including men, women and children.

Photo: Manoj DuttaONGC Himalayan Association (ONGCHA), an in-house outdoor sports wing of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) promoting adventure sports activities among employees, with Headquarters at Dehradun, Uttarakhand, works through different chapters/ units located in various operational work-centres of ONGC in all over India.ONGCHA works to create external aspiration among employees of ONGC for knowing the unknown, exploring the unexplored and conquer dimensions hidden in the regions of the great Himalayas primarily and it also works to develop the spirit of adventure and courage to face the challenges of nature among employees by way of promoting healthy hiking, trekking and mountaineering activities. ONGCHA-Assam Chapter has been actively functioning under the dynamic leadership of Shri B. K. Baruah, ED-Asset Manager, ONGC, Assam Asset as Chief Patron and Shri V. K. Verma, GM-Head HR/ER & SM, ONGC, Assam Asset as President.

ONGCHA-Assam Chapter has been creating an incredible trek with numerous adventure sports activities like trekking expedition, mountaineering, white water rafting, rock climbing, para-sailing/ para-gliding, monkey crawling, jungle safari, bike riding, cycling, camping, environmental awareness campaign including tree plantation, etc. for their enthusiastic team co-ordination of Shri Nitya Dutta, Co-ordinator, Shri Pritam Singh, Vice President and other active members of Assam Chapter, which are cultivating the sense of team spirit and helping employees to stay physical fit, moulding minds in unity, boosting work-culture for organisational dynamism.

First day, 21stMarch, 2014

The Carnival was started with felicitation to the guests invited to the inaugural function. After welcome address bythe President of ONGCHA-Assam Chapter, the Carnival was inaugurated by Shri Budhin Deuri, GGM-Surface Manager, ONGC, Assam Asset. Hoisting the ONGCHA Flag, in his speech as Chief Guest, Shri Deuri expressed his happiness to be being together with all the ONGCHA members and adventuresports lovers. The function was joined by Mrs Archana Baruah, President, ONGC Officers’ Mahila Samiti and all the VCB members of Assam Asset.

The invited guests and dignitaries including VCB members of ONGC, Assam Asset enjoyed participating in every event including elephant safari, horse riding, para-sailing, monkey crawling, rope climbing, etc. The first day’s adventure events were concluded with huge number of participation followed by cultural programmes in the evening. The cultural programme of various segments of dancing and singing was decorated by employees, wards of employees consisting of children and women. The main attraction of the cultural evening was the performance of Indian Idol fame little Priyam aka Priyam Borpatragohain.

Second day, 22nd March, 2014

People love adventure and hence, like to participate at least in minimum adventure activities or in some sort of adventure sports. The Carnival proved the same ethos as all the events were crowded for participation to get experience of adventure sports by large number of people. The adventure activities were continued for whole the day in the second day also.

In the evening, the closing function was graced by the Chief Patron of ONGCHA-Assam Chapter, Shri B. K. Baruah, ED-Asset Manager, ONGC, Assam Asset as Chief Guest.  He was felicitated by President of ONGCHA-Assam Chapter, Shri V. K. Verma, GM-Head HR/ER & SM. President of ONGC Officers’ Samiti, Mrs Archana Baruah was felicitated by Mrs Verma.

On this occasion, abook on adventure written by ShriAtul Chandra Kakoty entitled as ‘Kailash Mansarovar Darshan’ offered by him to the Chief Patron of ONGCHA-Assam Chapter. Shir Kakoty is an active member of ONGCHA-Assam Chapter, who has already earn accolade crossing height more than 16,000 ftof expedition in the Greater Himalayas.

In his speech offering vote of thanks by  the Chapter Co-ordinator Shri Nitrya Dutta loudly expressed gratitude to the Asset Management for their remarkable support and heartiest thanks to all parts of collectives and all honest employees of ONGC, AssamAsset.

The main attractions in the cultural extravaganza were started enthralling the evening by the performance of children particularly. Creative dance performances by star children from Delhi Public School, Dance India Dance participated little Miss Saikia and the Bihu dance troupe of children were magnetized the viewers. Apart from that, the function was ornamented with Bihu dance by ONGC employees’ wards, team of professional martial arts demonstration on stage. Extra vigour of the cultural evening was added by ‘Paradox’, a fusion music band mixing rock with folk music of Assam.

The cultural stage made with typical and unique style of architecture by the members of ONGCHA-Assam Chapter was very much appreciated by masses present in the occasion. The stage was full of presentation with numerous antique properties like old tyres coloured in unique style, old bike without engine, a jeep car body, folkloric properties of Assam used particularly for fishing activities, and so on.

Ethnic Foods and dissemination of Handicrafts of North East India

The Carnival was ornamented by Ethnic Food counters representing communities like Mising, Ahom, Kachari including North Indian food items. People enjoyed tasting ethnic food items of Mising, such as, pork meat heat on fire, pork meat prepared with ‘elephant apple’, chicken meat prepared with ‘elephant apple’ and Ahom-Kachari food items, such as, sticky rice and ‘komol chowl’ with sweet curd, etc. Mising part of Ethnic Food was led By Shri J.C.Mili  and Ahom-Kochari part of Ethnic Food was led by Shri  Atul Gogoi and Shri  Manab Mech. All are employees of ONGC, Assam Asset.

A few handicrafts stalls participated in the Carnival decorating with their fine products made of can and bamboo, jute and cotton; beautiful hand-fished utility products, handloom products including ‘gamocha’, shawl of Assam silk, traditional handmade kitchen utensils/cutters made of iron,beautiful flowers and so on.

With a unique conception and trend, maintaining traditional socio-cultural spirit of Assam, Adventure Sports Carnival organized by ONGCHA-Assam Chapter was made a grand success with the guidance and whole-hearted support from the Asset Management of ONGC, Assam Asset and also with the unconditional dedication of all active members in particular and co-operation of all employees as well as adventure lovers participated in all the events in both the days. People enjoyed very much participating in all the events and programmes. Popularizing the sense and concept of adventure sports among the employees of ONGC, Assam Asset, ONGCHA-Assam Chapter, without doubt, has broaden its extent of activities with an assurance more to do that undone, more to explore that unexplored and develop the spirit of adventure among employees.
