ONGCHA-Assam Chapter takes bike expedition to Majuli



Expedition team treads on the sands of Majuli
In line with the resolution taken during last AGBM, a bike expedition had recently been taken out to the largest riverine island of the world and bastion of Satria art and culture, Majuli in Jorhat district of Assam, with a view to create environmental awareness.
The riverine island of Majuli has long been famous for its scenic beauty, but in recent times it’s also feeling the heat of environmental degradation. On its arrival at Majuli, the expedition team started a tree plantation drive at the riverine island to send across the message of ecological conservation loud and clear.


Live saving techniques being demonstrated

Since Majuli is situated on an earthquake prone zone, the expedition team had conducted a disaster management training programme at the Majuli College compound upon invitation from the college authority. More than one hundred D. L. Ed. TET, Trainees of Jorhat District, and the Staff of Majuli College, took part in the training.A similar training was also imparted at Majuli Police Station by the expedition team.

Dr Narayanchandra Dev Goswami, Satradhikar, New Kamalabari Satra of   Majuli, hailed the effort of the expedition team and took saplings from the team for carrying forward the plantation drive in the riverine island.

The members of the expedition team had undergone NeuroSomalic Integration training imparted by Dr Yao Tan Tan, Professor of Paris University, France, during its stay at Majuli. Dr Tan Tan is presently doing research on Satria art and culture and also importing training on stress managementto disciples of the Satra.

The expedition taken out under the aegis of ONGCHA wrapped up its journey on December 25, 2012.
In addition to sharing a global concern with local population through putting efforts for conservation of nature, the expedition team taught lifesaving survival skills to locals as well, during its Majuli expedition.

Team leader of the expedition, Mr Nitya Dutta has ascribed the success of the Majuli expedition to the wholehearted support from ED-Asset Manager Mr BK Baruah and Mr VK Verma, GM-Head HR/ER.
Initially the bike expedition was jointly flagged off by Mr VK Verma, GM-Head HR/ER and Mr Sanjiva Rajan, GM (Civil) on December 24, 2012. The sixteen member expedition team started its journey from Nazira and arrived at Majuli by crossing the majestic river Brahmapurta and completed the expedition.
